Matthew Broderick will return to Broadway next spring.

The 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' actor - who has previously appeared in a number of stage productions in New York, including 'The Producers', ' How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' and 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' - has joined the cast of 'Nice Work If You Can Get It'.

The 1920s-set romantic comedy follows a playboy who gets mixed up with bootleggers and will be Matthew's first stint in a musical since 'The Producers' in 2001.

Tony-award winning director and choreographer Kathleen Marshall had initially been developing the project with Harry Connick Jr. but the project was abandoned in 2008 amid reports of feuds among the actor's agent and a producer.

The production will be produced by Scott Landis, along with Roger Berlind, Sonia Friedman, and Roy Furman.

'Nice Work If You Can Get It' features a book written by Joe DiPietro and songs by George and Ira Gershwin.

Matthew, 49, has previously won two coveted Tony awards for his work on the stage.

In 1983, he took home Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' - the youngest person to ever win the award - and triumphed again 12 years later with Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for 'How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying'.

He was also nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for 'The Producers'.
