Simon Cowell can't be in 2 places at once
Simon Cowell won't be returning to take up his position as a judge on the UK X Factor, ITV have confirmed.
The music mogul is launching the show in the States this year and scheduling conflicts mean he won't be able to do both.
'We have been in constant negotiations with Simon about ways in which we can move things forward and help The X Factor evolve,' ITV chief Peter Fincham says in a statement.
'We have been aware that his on-screen involvement in this series will not be as great as previous years for months now. It is something that we are completely comfortable with. He will not be a weekly judge.'
But ITV hope Simon, 51, will be able to make special appearances for the live shows.
'We are talking to him about ways he can have an on-screen presence later in the show,' adds Peter.
'He will be an enormous presence backstage as always.'
Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue will reprise their positions on the UK X Factor panel, but fellow judge Cheryl ?Cole, 27, is expected to quit if she gets a job on the US version.
Last week, Simon denied that his decision to take a back seat and concentrate on the American show was down to his mum Julie's increasing concerns over his health.
'The headline was a little bit overdramatic,' he told US show Fox & Friends. 'I think she was concerned. You know what mums are like, "My boy is working too hard..."
'I think she mentioned it to someone and then it got picked up to be a bigger story. I genuinely am absolutely fine and I have got at least weeks left!'
