Palmdale man shot dead on his lawn while getting the mail

PALMDALE - A man was shot dead on his front lawn in Palmdale, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

The shooting in the 37000 block of Laramie Street occurred about 10:45 p.m., Friday, Deputy Mark Pope of Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Pope said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The victim went outside to pick up his mail when he was shot, Los Angeles sheriff's Lt. Mike Rosson told a videographer from Newsreel.

A friend of the victim told the videographer the victim, a real estate agent, had called to tell him he was concerned about a suspicious man he saw outside his house Friday night.

No suspect description was available early Saturday, Pope said.

Officials urged anyone with information to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anyone wanting to remain anonymous can call (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
