Evans has tanned everyone from models during London and Paris fashion weeks to celebrities for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. And now she?s letting us in on her secrets. Keep reading for Evans? tips for successfully applying self-tanner.
- Plan ahead: You should apply your tanner at least two days prior to going to the beach.
- Exfoliate: This is the most important part of applying any self-tanner. Exfoliating removes dry skin and creates a smooth canvas.
- Prep dry areas: After the skin is dry, apply oil-free moisturizer to the knuckles, elbows, knees, and ankles. These areas tend to be drier than the rest of the body and will grab a lot of the color from the tanner. The moisturizer will prevent orange knuckles, elbows, knees, or ankles.
- Start from the bottom: Apply the tanner to the lowest part of your body first. If you apply to the stomach or chest first, you run the risk of getting creases when you bend over to tan your legs or feet.
- Avoid streaks: Streaks occur when you don?t use enough product. Be confident while coating your skin!
- Dry and dry some more: After you?ve applied the self-tanner to your body, let it dry for at least 15 minutes before getting dressed. You can dry your skin faster using a cool fan. The skin also absorbs spray tan faster than lotion.
- The finishing touch: Add a bronzer to the collar bone and tops of the shoulders to finish off the luminous glow.
- Prolong your tan: Decrease your showering time to 10 minutes with warm water because water will wash away your tan. Don?t shave and try not to exfoliate until you?re ready to tan again.
