Forget hiring an agent and heading to Hollywood. If you're a cute kid with some talent, YouTube is the way to superstardom! Ten-year-old Maria Lourdes Aragon learned this when she posted a video of herself singing Lady Gaga's "Born this Way," and within 24 hours, the pop star twittered her approval!
"Can't stop crying watching this," Gaga, 24, wrote on her Twitter page. "This is why I make music. She is the future."
That's a big endorsement for little Maria, who plays the keyboard while she passionately sings her own rendition of the superstar's hit single. Watch her homemade video below!
On Thursday, Gaga's "mini-me" spoke to Access Hollywood's Billy Bush about becoming an overnight celebrity of sorts. The young musician explained she posted the video "just (Wednesday) night" and the very next morning, Gaga herself had twittered a link to it.
"My sisters and my dad (told me about Lady Gaga's tweet)," Maria said. "They were kind of freaking out! They're like, 'Lady Gaga tweeted you!'" As of Friday morning, Maria's video had nearly 1.5 million hits on YouTube. While she's yet to receive a personal phone call from Mother Monster herself, Maria has been inundated with countless press calls. So many, in fact, that she's enlisted the help of her 22-year-old sister to act as her "publicist"!
When asked if she could say something to Lady Gaga, Maria said she’d tell her "that she writes really good songs" and "has good meaning to her songs and (I) really do idolize her."
Gaga told Access Hollywood she was touched by the overwhelming fan response to "Born This Way." "That's what I've been most surprised about is the younger generation stood up when I put this song out," Gaga said. "It really, the record spoke for itself, it reaches a lot of people -- it's much bigger than me."
