Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki got some super news recently. The 27-year-old actress has been cast as the titular heroine in NBC's eagerly anticipated Wonder Woman pilot. According to TVLine, Palicki will play the iconic Amazonian princess -- reinvented here as a Los Angeles-based vigilante -- as well as her two alter-egos: a billionaire CEO and that same CEO's "plain Jane" assistant, both of whom are named Diana!
Within an hour of the casting news breaking, TV's original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, twittered her approval. "Congratulations, Adrianne," the actress wrote. Carter kicked some serious butt (and looked great doing it) as Wonder Woman on a series that ran from 1975 to 1979.
While this gig might be Palicki's first as a superhero, she's no stranger to the small screen. In addition to her role as Tyra Collette on Friday Night Lights, the actress was one of two female leads on Fox's short-lived drama Lonestar and has guest-starred on Criminal Minds and the CW drama Supernatural. The 5-foot-11 Toledo, Ohio, native also starred in the 2010 film Legion alongside Paul Bettany and made an appearance in Will.I.Am's music video "We Are The Ones" in support of Barack Obama.
The Wonder Woman pilot will be executive-produced and penned by David E. Kelley, who has previously worked on Boston Legal and Ally McBeal. Bill D’Elia, another Boston Legal alum, is also an executive producer of Wonder Woman, while The Event's Jeffrey Reiner will direct the pilot.
We're looking forward to seeing how this statuesque brunette beauty measures up to the original female superhero! Let's just hope Palicki can pull off that iconic red, white and blue costume and has no aversions to big hair!
